Tomb Raider (2013) Camera Analysis 03 Coastal Forest

A camera beat chart and additional analysis for the Coastal Forest mission.
See the whole series of articles on the Camera page. "Read More" for details.

Camera Beat Chart for Coastal Forest Mission
Each minute of the Coastal Forest mission, broken down into the camera types found within it (see analysis below for details)
As the first 30 minute experience for Tomb Raider (2013) concludes, the proportion of NIS, or non-interactive sequences, increases drastically. Notice the large amount of grey filling the camera beat chart for this mission.

These first 30 minutes of gameplay are important to forming the player's first impression of the game. Notice also that menu's like the campfire and examination of relics are withheld completely from the Tutorial. By showing the excitement first, this becomes a game about experiencing an adventure story rather than a game about upgrading weapons at campfires, reading flavour text for collectables, and watching beautiful cinematics.

Camera Time by CategoryNIS surpasses Follow with > 33% of mission time
Exotic cameras refer to the zipline and balance cameras as well as custom or rarely used cameras
Static-facing cameras are  better versions of the industry standard static cameras. Includes camera pulls and shots with movement/rotation on one axis
NIS include transitions and any unresponsive shots
Follow cameras are driven by mouse or stick input
Climbing cameras support the climbing features

I've played Tomb Raider and I did enjoy it a lot. My only problem was about the camera. There were certain moments where it was hard to control. It gave Lara some impromptu close ups when I adjusted it. There were also times that when facing an enemy, the camera became a little bit fidgety especially with all the shooting and rolling. If there was a more stable camera, I would have enjoyed it a lot more.

I must admit that camera behavior real matter. Just as an example Dark Souls one is unreal to play on PC because of camera.
